More time to move – Our Roehampton sports club sessions have grown!

Your Time to Move was born in 2022 as a one hour a week, multi-sports session as we began to grow our activities back into Roehampton. Now, we’ve been able to extend our time there, meaning more time to move for young people aged 10-18!

Led by our youth worker and sports coach Louis, ‘Your time to Move’ is a welcoming and open sports club for any young people to come down and get involved in different sports activities; from football, basketball, dodgeball and everything in between! These sessions are typically built around the sports and activities young people are interested in, and they are able to feedback to the youth workers what they would like to play.

However, it’s also a club where we want to encourage all young people to try the sports they don’t normally play or haven’t tried too. For example, last term we were very lucky to have a Wimbledon Sports Coach with us for an hour every Tuesday, teaching us everything about the game and helping us perfect our skills.

In addition to the regular sessions during term time, we also offer trips for the group during school holidays; for example most recently they’ve been to Clip ‘n Climb, laser tag, and Oxygen trampoline park.

We’re really pleased that these sessions have been going so well. At Regenerate, we believe that playing sports is not only essential in keeping us active, but is a fun way to socialise, essential for your mental wellbeing, and helps with building key skills such as confidence, teamwork, self management and respect:

“Sport for young people is so necessary, but schools are not offering the option to move enough. Your time to move is our way of getting young people moving and growing – I’ve seen the young people we work with in Roehampton improve their confidence, social skills and self esteem massively since coming to the sessions.” – Louis

With Your Time to Move, we’ve created a space where all young people, including girls and those of all abilities feel comfortable to move with us. We asked some of the young people who regularly attend the sessions why they enjoy the sessions and why other young people should come along too:

“I like coming to the your time to move club because it gives you freedom to choose the sports you want to play and the opportunity to interact with different people.” – Adam

“When I started coming I was nervous too – I was the only girl and there was like 5 billion boys – but as I kept coming I felt more comfortable and it’s always so much fun, so you shouldn’t be scared!” – Maryam

Your time to move is now!
